Bioware’s announced Command & Conquer: Generals 2 during tonight’s the VGAs, confirming a 2013 release for PC only.
It’ll be powered by Frostbite 2, the engine made internally at DICE for Battlefield 3. Victory Games will be handling development as BioWare Victory.
Dr Ray is, naturally, pleased about tonight’s announcement.
“We’re bringing BioWare’s vision for emotionally engaging gameplay and great attention to quality to the strategy genre and the Command & Conquer franchise,” said BioWare label GM Muzyka.
“I am excited to welcome BioWare Victory to our label. They are a great addition and the team is working hard to make sure Generals 2 truly immerses and engages players into this intense, gritty, modern war experience.”
Executive producer Jon Van Caneghem added: “With Generals 2, we are bringing the Command & Conquer franchise back to its roots, blending strategic gameplay with fast-paced action — all set in visually stunning theaters of war powered by Frostbite 2.”
Asked why Generals 2 if there was concern in having the game as a PC exclusive, Van Caneghem said in a GameSpot interview it was to “re-establish the franchise as one of the key players in the strategy genre and the best way for us to do that is on PC.”
О Batman: Arkham World особо сказать нечего, трейлера нет и никаких других подробностей тоже нет, но ребята с vg247.com обещали в понедельник разузнать больше об этом проэкте.Спойлер
HOLD. THE. PHONE. Did Joker just tease something called Batman: Arkham World? He may have.
Accepting an award as Character of the Year at the awards for Batman: Arkham City, the villain – aka Mark Hamil – held up a script titled “Batman: Arkham World,” before adding: “Woops. Spoilers.”
You should probably take this at face value as a probable tease: Rocksteady unveiled an Arkham Asylum sequel, which turned out to be Arkham City, at the VGAs two years ago.
We’ll email Warner on Monday and see what they say.
Metal Gear Solid: Rising был официально, повторно представлен на VGAs, подтверждающи возникшие слухи на E3, разработкой тайтла занимается Platinum Games.
Metal Gear Solid: Rising has been formally re-unveiled at the VGAs, confirming initial E3 rumours that Platinum Games is developing the title.
The news comes hours after the trailer managed to leak online before the show.
The video shows PMC groups similar to MGS4 and in previous trailers for the game, as well as ninjas in suits.
Previously confirmed to be a prequel to MGS4 and a sequel to MGS2, it’ll now actually take place after Guns of the Patriots, with Raiden returning to his ninja form.
Quinton Flynn, Raiden’s voice actor in MGS2 and MGS4, also makes an appearance, despite showing concern earlier this year he may not be involved with the title.
This will be Platinum’s first title being developed that won’t be published by Sega. Previously, all of its efforts, including Bayonetta, Madworld and Vanquish to name a few, were published by the company.
Its next effort, Anarchy Reigns, launches under Sega in early 2012.
Rising was announced at E3 2009 at Microsoft’s press conference, but was confirmed to be a multi-plat affair. Gameplay footage from when it was being made at KP wouldn’t emerge until a year later at E3, followed by a TGS demo.
Since then, it’s gone quiet. Until now, obviously.
MGS; Rising launches on PS3, 360 and PC in 2012. Trailer’s below. New shots are here.
Bioware released a new video for Mass Effect 3 tonight, which received its world premiere during the VGAs. In it, Commander Shepard is trying to escape being obliterated by a Reaper when a Thresher Maw bursts onto the scene, inadvertently saving his life. It’s pretty intense to watch, and you can do just that below the break. There’s also a few screen grabs through here. Mass Effect 3 is out in March on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. A demo is set for release in January, with Battlefield 3 players getting the first crack at it.
The bomb has been dropped big time: The Last of Us has been announced at the Spike VGAs for PS3, coming as a brand new IP from Naughty Dog.
The trailer showed a man and a young woman, who looked a lot like Ellen Page, fending off what appeared to be ant-like zombies of some sort before running out to a environment of a metro city and jungle that had a big I Am Legend vibe
No date was given, however.
Last of Us is a “survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague,” headlined by a duo known as Joel and Ellie – the Page-looking gal – as they go through the US.
“We are excited to finally unveil The Last of Us, a project the team has been working hard on for some time,” said Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells.
“Naughty Dog’s mission is to change the way people experience videogames. We are confident The Last of Us will take a leap forward in cinematic gaming and storytelling, providing gamers with an experience unlike anything else in the industry.”
The announcement of the new project, being headed by studio game director Bruce Stanley and Uncharted 2 director Neil Druckmann, shows the team now has two teams operating at once. It’s been focussing on Uncharted since its inception in 2007, so this is a big ultra-shocker.
It’s also the first time the studio has introduced a second new IP in the same hardware generation. Trailer and first screens is below.
2K aired a brand new trailer of BioShock Infinite tonight at the VGAs tonight, showing another side to Columbia not shown before. The video showed a mix of old clips from the previous two gameplay demos airing over the past year, as well as new content. We’re stoked for this, quite simply. Get the video below the break.
The Irrational epic launches in 2012 for PS3, 360 and PC.
IO Interactive released a new Hitman: Absolution trailer during the VGAs pre-show, featuring Agent 47 going into a hospital with guns a’ blazing. You can watch all the carnage for yourself below. Hitman is due in 2012 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Boom. Tony Hawk’s said – actually genuinely said – that Tony Hawk Pro Skater will come in HD to digital platforms next year.
Speaking on the VGAs red carpet to Joystiq, Hawkman said the game would take “select” levels from the first two Pro Skater games, and include them in HD for first-half 2012.
Levels mentioned by Hawk to be included were School and Downhill.
A unveil had been initially teased earlier this week following a break this year after the shortcomings of Shred last year and Ride in 2009. It was through those failings that the series took a break.
We approve of this news. Highly. A bigger blowout is expected at the VGAs tonight. Get our liveblog of it here.
